Child Safety
Student Welfare
A student's right to participate in an environment free from danger is a foundational component of our business philosophy.
The Swim Academy Network:
- ensures that any instances of racism are identified, confronted, and not tolerated. Any instances of racism will be addressed with appropriate consequences
- encourages and supports all our members to express their culture and enjoy their cultural rights
- supports participation and inclusion of Aboriginal children, young people and their families
- endeavours to create a culturally safe and inclusive environment for all cultures, including Aboriginal children, young people and their families
- endeavours to take into account the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse communities
- respects equity, diversity and inclusion.
Swimming Australia National Integrity Framework
The Swimming Australia National Integrity Framework (NIF) is an initiative of Swimming Australia and confirms the shared responsibility we all have for keeping each other safe in swimming - children and adults alike.
The NIF was updated by Swimming Australia in 2022 and comprises the following 6 governing documents:
- Complaints, Disputes and Discipline Policy
- Competition Manipulation and Sport Wagering Policy
- Member Protection Policy
- Improper Use of Drugs and Medicines Policy
- Swimming Australia National Integrity Framework
- Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy
The last noted policy regarding children and young people:
- specifically commits to keeping our children and young people safe within the sport of swimming
- clarifies and raises the standards of behaviour for dealing with children and young people through a code of conduct for dealing with children and young people
- combines previous role-specific codes of conduct into a single general code of conduct
- strengthens and clarifies processes and procedures when safe sport concerns or incidents arise
- requires rigorous recruitment and screening procedures, as well as reporting, by all organisations in swimming
- provides guidance, advice, tips and tools to assist in keeping each other and our sport safe for all people.
The NIF was developed by a committee from a range of Swimming Australia member associations in consultation with the Australian Childhood Foundation and the Australian Sports Commission.
The NIF puts swimming at the forefront of safeguarding children and member processes, procedures and resources in Australia.
In support of the NIF, Swim Academy Network requires all employees to hold a current Working With Children’s check and complete annual Child Safety training.
